The Cambodia e-Visa is available to all nationalities. It is an alternative to the Visa on Arrival, but not all borders support entry using the e-Visa. It costs a bit more but saves you the hassle of applying at the airport or dealing with bureaucracy and potential scams at land borders.

Understanding Cambodia e-Visa
e-Visa validity
Cambodia e-Visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You must enter Cambodia before it expires, otherwise you will need a new visa.
Duration of stay
The allowed duration of stay for the e-Visa is 30 days. It is extendable once for an additional 30 days. The day you enter is considered Day 1.
Allowed number of entries
The Cambodian e-Visa is single-entry only. Multiple-entry e-Visas do not exist.
Allowed ports of entry
Only the following borders allow entry using an e-Visa:
International Airports
- Phnom Penh International Airport
- Siem Reap International Airport
- Sihanoukville International Airport (Note that Sihanoukville Seaport is NOT eligible for e-Visa entry)
Thailand-Cambodia Land Borders
- Poi Pet – Aranyaprathet (Used to travel from Bangkok to Siem Reap)
- Cham Yeam – Had Lek (Used to travel from Bangkok/Pattaya to Sihanoukville)
Laos-Cambodia Land Borders
- Nong Nok Khiene – Tropaeng Kreal (Used to travel from Pakse/Don Det to Phnom Penh/Siem Reap)
Cambodia-Vietnam Land Borders
- Moc Bai – Bavet (Used to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh)
NOTE: You can exit Cambodia using any international border post, not just the ones above, regardless of your visa type.
When to apply
The processing time of the e-Visa is pretty quick – just 3 business days. It often gets done even quicker than that. Because of the long validity, it’s best to apply when you are certain of your travel plans.
- Latest: 3 days before traveling
- Earliest: 3 months before traveling
e-Visa extension
The e-Visa can be extended once for another 30 days of stay.
Cambodia e-Visa cannot be extended online, you must do it in person or use an agent.
To extend independently, you must go to the Cambodia Immigration Office in Phnom Penh (Google Maps location). It’s near the airport.
Below is the extension process at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh.
- Try to go early in the morning, preferably around opening time at 8 AM
- Fill out the visa extension form, give your passport, and pay the extension fee of 30 USD
- Go back a week later to collect your passport
NOTE: The immigration office will keep your passport for 1 week. You must apply at least 1 week before your current visa expires.
You will have to use an agent to extend anywhere else in the country.

Cambodia e-Visa Requirements
e-Visa eligibility
All countries are eligible for Cambodia e-Visa.
Visa-exempt countries are also eligible to apply for the e-Visa. If you are visa-exempt and you intend to stay in Cambodia longer than the allowed 30-day stay, you can opt for e-Visa.
Similarly, Cambodia Visa on Arrival eligible nationals can also opt for e-Visa to avoid VOA refusals and any potential scams at the border.
Those who require a Cambodia Tourist Visa are also eligible to apply for an e-Visa, which saves time and a trip to the embassy.
Documents required
The following documents are required to complete the e-Visa application.
- Scan of your passport ID page
- Digital passport-size photo
Support documents: There is also an option to upload your flight tickets (both into and out of Cambodia), bus tickets and hotel reservations, however, you can get by without uploading anything. Cambodian Immigration has no rules regarding onward tickets and is rarely concerned about whether or not you have one.
Passport requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry into Cambodia.
The passport scan must be in JPG, JPEG or PNG format and less than 2MB in size.
Photo requirements
The photo you attach must be recent, in JPEG or PNG format, and clearly show your face. The requirements are not very specific. As long as the photo is good enough, you will not have a problem.
When you upload your passport scan, the system will automatically take your photo from there. It’s usually low quality, so it’s better to upload a separate one.
You can even ask it to be changed after you submit your application by emailing info@evisa.gov.kh with the new photo and your reference number.
e-Visa fee
The Cambodia e-Visa fee is 30 USD plus a 6 USD processing fee. This makes the total fee 36 USD.
In comparison, the Visa on Arrival costs 30 USD but at some borders, you may be “scammed/extorted” out an additional 2 to 10 dollars.
Processing time
The Cambodia e-Visa processing time is 3 business days. It’s often processed quicker than that.

Entry Procedure at the Border
Print your e-Visa
Make sure you print your approved e-Visa on an A4 sheet before traveling. It’s not necessary to print in color. Black and White copy is fine. The immigration also recommends printing 2 copies.
Submit e-Arrival Card
Make sure to submit the Cambodia e-Arrival (CeA) Card online within 7 days before you arrive in Cambodia.
Pass Immigration
Upon arrival, go to an Immigration Counter and present your passport and e-Visa print. You will be stamped in for 30 days.
This is why the e-Visa may be a better option than the Visa on Arrival despite the slightly higher cost. You won’t have to fill out forms or queue for application and payment. And for some land borders, you won’t have to deal with corruption.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I overstay my visa?
For short overstays, the penalty is 10 USD per day. There are rarely more severe actions.
However, for longer overstays, a whole array of penalties could be imposed on you.
Is there a Cambodia e-Visa app?
There is a Cambodia e-Visa app for iOS, but it doesn’t function well and has bad reviews. There is no app for Android yet.
I recommend applying for your e-Visa only through the official Cambodia e-Visa website.
You can use the Cambodia e-Arrival app to complete the arrival card beforehand, including information that will speed up getting Visa on Arrival (if opting for VOA instead of e-Visa). You can also do that online without an app at the Cambodia e-Arrival website.
Should I get the e-Visa or the Visa on Arrival (VOA)?
If you are crossing into Cambodia through a smaller border, the e-Visa may not be accepted.
If you arrive through an eligible border, which visa to get is ultimately up to you as they are identical.
The Visa on Arrival is a bit cheaper (30 USD vs 36 USD) but it will take you longer to cross the border. Some land borders are known to demand bribes which will negate the few saved dollars.
Can I do a same-day visa run to Cambodia and back to Thailand or Vietnam?
Day trips (i.e. arrival and departure on the same day) are not allowed, except if arriving and departing at Phnom Penh International Airport. That said, people still do same-day visa runs to Cambodia from neighboring countries successfully.
