Entry procedure at the border
Complete the All Indonesia Arrival Card before arrival in Indonesia. You can complete it at the airport also but you have asked by the check-in staff, so it’s better you complete it a day or two before your trip.
When you arrive in Indonesia, head directly to Immigration. Hand over your passport and e-Visa, on your phone or a paper copy.
The officer may ask you how long you intend to stay in Indonesia and where you want to go. He may ask to see your return or onward ticket.
The officer will then stamp your passport with a “Stay Permit”. Check the “Valid until” date on your stay permit. This is the date until which you can legally stay in Indonesia (unless you extend).
***
How to extend Indonesia tourist visa?
You can extend the tourist visitor visa twice. Each extension costs 1,500,000 IDR and grants an additional 60 days. This makes the maximum allowed stay with 2 extensions 180 days, which will cost 4,000,000 IDR in total.
You can only extend your stay permit within 14 days of its expiry.
You will have to start the extension process online, pay, and submit the application. You will then have to visit the immigration office for a biometric and a short interview.
If you are having any trouble with the online application, you can also apply for the extension in person at the immigration office or take the help of an agent.
Option 1: Extend online
To extend online, go to the eVisa Imigrasi website that you have used to apply for your visa and log in.
Step 1: Click on “Services” in the main menu at the top.
Step 2: Click on the Apply button within “Stay Permit”.
Step 3: You should see your current “Stay Permit”. Click the “Extend” button on the right side of the bar.
Step 4: Follow the application process. There is an upload box asking for a Guarantee letter, but it is not mandatory. Do not upload anything there – it is not a requirement for the personal C1 visa.
Step 5: Pay. If the system allows you to pay by card, you are lucky! Usually, it’s not an available option and the only payment option present is to use Simponi.
Simponi is a billing system managed by the Indonesian Government. It will issue you a payment code. Take the code or print the invoice and pay using one of these methods:
- By cash at any Indonesian Bank
- At an ATM that accepts cash deposits
- Using GoPay or a similar e-money payment provider in Indonesia
After you pay, the status of your application will change from “Waiting for Payment” to “Waiting for Verification”.
Step 6: When the status is “Waiting for Verification”, you can view your appointment date and time. You will have to appear at the immigration office for a photo and an in-person interview.
Step 7: After your appointment, within 3-4 working days, your extension will be approved. Download the extension approval from the retrieve section of the visa website or keep the PDF file attached to the approval email safe.
Extend in person (offline)
Try to extend online first. If any issues prevent you from submitting your application, visit an Immigration Office (Kantor Imigrasi) in person.
You will have to visit 3 times in total:
- On the first visit, you will hand over your passport and pay.
- A few days later, you will have to go back and complete biometrics – fingerprints and a photo
- When the extension is ready, you will be notified via email. Go back one last time to collect your passport with the visa extension.
Alternatively, you can use a visa agent. Visa agents charge a premium (usually 1.8-2.5 million IDR instead of the standard 1.5 million), but you only need to go to immigration once for the biometrics. The agent will take care of the entire process for you. Some agents will even pick you up and drive you to the Immigration Office if required.
