The US passport (and US citizenship) is considered one of the strongest in the world. A US green card is a pathway to US citizenship. Many countries believe that someone with a US green card will not jeopardize their chances of becoming a US citizen by remaining illegally in another country.

Working towards acquiring a US green card requires remaining several years in the US or investing enormous amounts of cash or building very strong economic and family ties with the US. It’s silly for someone to let go of years of valuable time and millions of dollars of investments just to stay illegally in another country. So, countries trust US green card holders as genuine travelers and treat them almost like someone holding a US passport. Therefore, these countries offer VISA-FREE access to US green card holders.

Let’s look into the entry requirements of each of these countries in detail.

Hold a US visa such as B1/B2, F1 or H1B? Refer to this article on VISA-FREE countries for US visa in 2026.

Thanks a lot for this info. Seems like Guatemala is completely visa-free and not restricted to any country list.

Hi Sina! I’m not sure about that. My understanding is that this provision is for those who entered Guatemala as Category A, B, or C, but later qualify for a lower visa restriction category, then they can change their category if approved.

Asked ChatGPT to translate the above and it says
“A person classified in Category “B” (Consular Visa) or Category “C” (Consulted Visa) who holds a valid permanent residence or a temporary residence proving five continuous years of stay—properly verified and documented—in a country classified as Category “A” or Visa-Exempt shall be granted Category “A” treatment.”

The Embassy also mentions visa-free travel for Green Card holders
        https://www.embaguateusa.gob.gt/general-9

So seems like they are differentiating between US visa and US green card. But all said I haven’t been able to contact the consulate yet and haven’t read any trip report confirming or refuting this.

Ok. I misunderstood your comment. You mean to say, not just those 65 nationalities I’ve listed, but “all nationalities” are eligible to enter Guatemala with a US green card? Got it. And yes, you are correct. Anyone holding a US green card can enter Guatemala without needing a separate visa. I will update the article.

Meanwhile, let me know your nationality (passport). I can dig more and find out if you can travel to Guatemala with your US green card.

Update on this: Now I can confirm based on my experience that for Guatemala, if you have a green card and you are not a citizen of one of the countries in the list, then you do not need a visa only if your green card is at least 5 years old. But if your green card is less than 5 years old, you need to get a consular visa.

Hi Arman! Yes. You would need a visa for Colombia. The VISA-FREE provision for US green card holders is only for Cambodia, China, India, Macau, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam passport holders. Armenian passport holders are not on that list and therefore, you need to obtain a Colombian visa before travel. You can apply for Colombian e-Visa. It’s easy and fast.

Hi Carolina! As a US green card holder, you DO NOT need a visa for South Korea if you will be traveling to/from the US via South Korea to a third country. For example, If you will be traveling from the US to the Philippines via South Korea, you can stay 30 days in South Korea using your US green card. Similarly, if you will be traveling from the Philippines to the US via South Korea, you can stay 30 days in South Korea.

Keep in mind that if you will be transiting or having a layover before South Korea, it must be less than 3 days. For example, US-Japan-South Korea-Philippines will work only if you will stay less than 3 days in Japan before heading to South Korea.

Hi Rubi! All information is verified, either by me or fellow readers. This is actually the major difference between us and other visa websites out there. We (I, my team or my readers) personally travel and enter the country to verify the information. You can join our FB group and ask your question there. You will find quite a few readers who were able to get a 24hr entry at Heathrow using their green cards or US visas.

Hi Rama! Within “Permitted nationalities”, if “Ghana” or “All nationalities” is listed, then you can travel to that country without a visa. All you need is your Ghana passport and US green card.

UAE visa on arrival validity is 14 days with another 14 days of the grace period. So the total is 28 days.

Hi Asdf! Thanks! I’m aware of the fact that there is a grace period but I couldn’t confirm if it’s 14 days or less. For my latest VOA, when looked up on the Smart Services portal, the grace period was only 11 days. I entered on 21 Mar 2022 and the expiration was 14 Apr 2022. The total days on my visa were only 25 days, i.e 14 + 11 days. So if I tell my readers that they can stay additional 14 days and if they get fewer days grace period, they would end up overstaying their visas. Then I would be responsible for that. To confirm any information, (1) I would need an official source, and (2) I should be able to verify the info myself for my own VOA to confirm.

Hi Abdullah! As per the official sources, Saudi Arabia only accepts US, UK and Schengen visas. If you hold a US visa, you can get VOA in Saudi Arabia. But if you hold a US green card, you cannot. Either way, contact Saudi authorities to get a confirmation.
